Sirpur was once large buddhist historical site, it has been traced by foreign historians as well. And in budhhist scripts and books there is mention of Sirpur or Sripur.

Finding this excavation site shows the same place, and with more details it will be proved to be great historical achievment. It is said that this place was used for Budhhist preaching and teaching, this could be one kind of university or worship place used for gathering of big events.

This is one of the most recent excavation at Sirpur, Chhattisgarh. This is the picture of one of the panel on top of a huge platform. Some people call it a temple complex, but I dont agree with them and probably any person with common sense will not agree. Anyways, it is a great site ans although excavation is not carried out in the best possible way, but atleast something has been done. It is still a site worth visiting.

Historical city Sripur

The ancient city of Sirpur (also called Shirpur) has been mentioned in ancient epigraphic records, dating back to the 5th to the 8th centuries A.D. The city was once the capital of the Sarbhapuriya and Somvanshi Kings of Dakshin (south) Kosala and was an important Buddhist centre. It was even visited by Hiuen Tsang, the great Chinese traveler and scholar, around 635 AD. The small but interesting town of Sirpur has many beautiful temples worth visiting on Sirpur Tour.

This site of sirpur is significant achievement in Chhattisgarh Archeology.

There are many new locations near Sirpur are being checked by Archeologist. These is significant breakthrough recently by finding Tarighat site near Raipur. This location is just 60-70 km far from Sirpur.

Patewa: पटेश्वर महादेव मंदिर (Shiva Temple)

पटेश्वर महादेव ""सद्योजात'' नाम वाली भगवान शम्भु की मूर्ति कहें जातें हैं। इनकी अद्धार्ंगिनी हैं भगवती अन्नपूर्णा, हम कह सकते हैं कि ये अन्नमयकोश की प्रतीक हैं। वहां पूजा करते समय जो मन्त्र उच्चारण करते हैं, उसमें अन्न की महिमा का वर्णन किया गया है। उस मन्त्र में कहते हैं कि अन्न ही ब्रह्म है, और इस प्रकार अन्न के रुप में ब्रह्म की उपासना करने के लिए कहते हैं। छत्तीसगढ़ जिसे धान का कटोरा कहा गया है, बहुत ही स्वाभाविक है कि यह मन्त्र का भाव इस प्रकार होगा। इस मन्त्र में यह कहा गया है कि जो व्यक्ति इस अन्न की ब्रह्म रुप में उपासना करते हैं, वे शिव और अन्नपूर्णा की कृपा से संतुष्ट रहते हैं। इस मन्त्र में कहते हैं कि इस पृथ्वी पर जितने भी लोग निवास करते हैं, उन सबका अन्न से पालन-पोषण होता है और आखिर में अन्न उत्पन्न करने वाली इस पृथ्वी में ही वे सभी विलीन हो जाते हैं।

इस प्रकार पटेश्वर महादेव ""अन्नब्रह्म'' के रुप में पूजे जाते हैं।

यात्री यहां पहुंचकर रात में विश्राम करते हैं और सुबह शिवजी के तालाब में नहाकर पूजा अर्चना करके चल पड़ते हैं, अगले पड़ाव की ओर।

Champaran: चम्पकेश्वर महादेव या तत्पुरुष महादेव का मंदिर(Shiva Temple)

चम्पकेश्वर महादेव - यह है अगला पड़ाव। राजिम के उत्तर की ओर 14 कि.मी. पर चम्पारण ग्राम है जहां चम्पकेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर है। चम्पारण पहले चम्पारण्य नाम से जाना जाता था, जिसका अर्थ है चम्पक (चम्पा फूल) का अरण्य (जंगल)। यह चम्पक का अरण्य 18 एकड़ में फैला हुआ है। चम्पकेश्वर महादेव को तत्पुरुष महादेव भी कहा जाता है। यहां उनकी अद्धार्ंगिनी हैं कालिका (पार्वती)।

चम्पकेश्वर महादेव या तत्पुरुष महादेव की उपासना प्राण रुप से की जाती है। तत्पुरुष देव को पवनात्मक पवन कहते हैं।

चम्पकेश्वर महादेव का स्वयं-भू लिंग यहां जब प्रतिष्ठित हुआ तब शिव भगवान को ही पूजते थे यहां, बाद में वल्लभाचार्य के कारण यह एक वैष्णव पीठ के रुप में भी प्रतिष्ठित हुआ। शैव एवं वैष्णव सम्प्रदायों के संगम स्थल के रुप में एकता का प्रतीक बन गया।

इसके बाद यात्री जाते हैं ब्राह्मनी नाम के गांव में जहां ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव की पूजा अपंण करते हैं।

Brahmani: ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव का मन्दिर (Shiva Temple)

ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव - चम्पारण से 9 कि.मी. दूरी पर उत्तर पूर्व की ओर ब्रह्मनी नाम का एक गांव है जो ब्रह्मनी नदी या बधनई नदी के किनारे अवस्थित है।

ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव में शम्भू की ""अधोर'' वाली मूर्ति है। उमा देवी इनकी शक्ति हैं। अधोर महादेव या ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव, ब्रह्म के आनन्दमय स्वरुप में पूजे जाते हैं। ऐसा विश्वास करते हैं लोग कि इस अभिनन्दमय स्वरुप को जो एकबार पहचान लेते हैं, वे कभी भी भयभीत नहीं होते।

बधनई नदी के किनारे एक कुंड है जिसके उत्तरी छोरपर ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव का मन्दिर है। इस कुंड में जल का स्रोत है जिसे श्वेत या सेत गंगा के नाम से जानते हैं लोग।

ब्रह्मकेश्वर महादेव की पूजा करने के बाद यात्री चल पड़ते हैं किंफगेश्वर नगर की ओर।

Fingeshwar: फणिकेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर (Shiva Temple)

राजिम से 16 कि.मी. (पूर्व दिशा) की दूरी पर है यह किंफगेश्वर नगर। यहां स्थित है फणिकेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर, फणिकेश्वर महादेव में है शम्भू की ""ईशान'' नाम वाली मूर्ति। इनकी अद्धार्ंगिनी हैं अंबिका।

ऐसा कहते हैं कि फणिकेश्वर महादेव प्रतीक है ""विज्ञानमय कोश'' के और वे भक्तों को शुभगति देते हैं।

Kopra: कर्पूरेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर - कोपरा गाँव (Shiva Temple)

यहां है कर्पूरेश्वर महादेव का मंदिर। कुछ लोग उन्हें कोपेश्वर नाथ नाम से जानते हैं। ये जगह है पंचकोसी यात्रा का आखरी पड़ाव। कोपरा गांव के पश्चिम में ""दलदली'' तालाब है, उसी तालाब के भीतर, गहरे पानी में यह मंदिर हैं। इस तालाब को शंख सरोवर भी कहा जाता है।

कर्पूरेश्वर महादेव में शम्भू की ""वामदेव'' नाम की मूर्ति है। उनकी पत्नी ""भवानी'' हैं। कर्पूरेश्वर महादेव है ""आनन्दमय कोश'' के प्रतीक। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सभी आनन्द को चाहते हैं पर जानकारी न होने के कारण आनन्द पा नहीं सकते।
